Including Stella Vine, Gavin Turk, Chantal Joffe, Bob & Roberta Smith, and Bruce McLean. In contrast to the recent Damien Hirst auction and the market frenzy of frieze art fair week, The Free Art Fair will allow anyone to see and own great pieces of contemporary art for free. Perfect for the credit crunch, everything at The Free Art Fair is FREE. The final giveaway starts at 6pm on Sunday 19th October, expect people to camp out a week in advance to get the piece they want. Last year's Free Art Fair had people queuing overnight and was broadcast live on BBC News 24.

Takes place in Seymour Place and New Quebec Street, Portman Village, central London right between frieze and Zoo art fairs.

All the artists give a serious artwork to make a great show, some of the pieces will need to be taken home in a large van. Harry Pye gives a version of a Francis Bacon triptych. Jasper Joffe liberates a 4m painting. Bob & Roberta Smith frees his toenail clippings. Peter Harris offers a piece of paper said to have been touched by Damien Hirst. Martin Sexton makes a gratis Stonehenge. Instead of art going to the highest bidder or those who can afford it, someone who really loves an artwork will be able to have it for free. 2000 copies of the Free Art Fair handbook to be given away, each one individually customized with a hand-drawn free on the cover. Like a carefree backpacker on a year abroad, the works of nineteen San Francisco artists will travel the world in a suitcase to various destinations with no confirmed schedule or order of travel. In each location the exhibition will acquire traveling mates in the form of new artworks by local artists. Two local artists will contribute one work each to the suitcase so that it will eventually return to San Francisco as a new collection of international artworks. 

San Francisco has long been a nurturing site for creative minds to study, work and play. A unique cultural centre in its own right, it is a city that is often considered a transitory stopover while artists depart to find success in other cities around the world. Destination seeks to facilitate new bonds between a core group of west coast artists and international artists around the world. The end result will be a unique, hodge-podge, yet comprehensive representation of an exciting group of international emerging artists. The end of the show will be celebrated with the production of a publication that will document the travels of the suitcase.

There will be music, sound art, poetry, film, comedy, costumed theatrics and drawings. The evening is set in the Montague Arms, a traditional old boozer stuffed full of stuffed animals and other odd items collected over its long history. The evening will be part of a series of live art events curated by Frog Morris and Lee Campbell in venues across London during October.
